A Message From Dick Griggs, Chairman Of The Proclaim Hope! Board

On Inviting David Bryant's Ministry Within Your Situation

Many people ask about how they can approach David Bryant to minister in their situation. As Chairman of the Board, it is my privilege to work closely with him on such invitations. I know from experience that God would greatly bless you through a visit from David Bryant.

At the mandate of our Board of Directors, I want to alert you to guidelines that we've developed on David's behalf, related to the distinctives of David's ministry with you, and related to our financial expectations. We believe that stating these guidelines up front will be helpful to both you and to us.

The Message and the Mission

AD 2000 marked for David and our organization the emergence, as top priority, of what we might call the "proclamation" era. At least that's how scores of Christian leaders have termed it as they have walked with David through this process. (See elsewhere on this website a special letter of endorsement from over 70 leaders representative of those who believe in the thrust we call PROCLAIM HOPE!)

His ministry has become primarily a message: Christ and the full extent of His supremacy. We believe it is the heart of what God wants for His people at this crossroads moment for our nation and our generation. This more comprehensive Christology will awaken hope more fully for Christians, and thus newly empower the Church for its mission. This message is also the key to igniting and sustaining a movement of prayer for revival and mission.

In other words, we believe that proclaiming Christ in the full extent of His supremacy - what David summarizes in his writings with four words, "focus, fulfillment, fullness and fervency" - will unleash fresh hope, passion, prayer and mission throughout the Church.

It is to that end that PROCLAIM HOPE! was born. It's the same kind of proclamation ministry that undergirded the First and Second Great Awakenings (as, for example, British historian Ian Murray documents in his book, The Puritan Hope). Throughout those epochs, spiritual leaders proclaimed a "theology of hope" centered on a vast biblical Christology. I'm sure you agree we urgently need to resurrect a similar Christology today! And we need to empower many believers to spread the vision, too.

David began to lobby for this vision in the 1990's in his trilogy on Christ-centered revival (The Hope at Hand, Messengers of Hope and Stand in the Gap). His next book, CHRIST IS ALL! A Joyful Manifesto on the Supremacy of God's Son, will greatly expand all he has previously written and preached about our ascended Lord.

With this in view, the Mission Statement for PROCLAIM HOPE! states:

To awaken throughout the Church
Fresh hope, passion, prayer and mission
Centered on the Lord Jesus Christ
By proclaiming the full extent of His supremacy
And by empowering others to do the same.

Not surprisingly, our primary mission text for Proclaim Hope! has become Colossians 1:23-2:4. To learn more about our mission please consult the explanation of PROCLAIM HOPE! (Click Here)

Context, Recruiting, Leadership, Follow-up

Obviously, the convictions of such a mission vision must of necessity determine how David responds to an opportunity to minister to others. He must carefully weigh every potential assignment, making sure that the "context" in which he is asked to minister actually supports and enhances the "content" of the message he brings. Our Board calls this the "principle of compatibility."

In addition, no matter what ministry approach everyone agrees to, as you'll gather from the Ministry Questionnaire, David is deeply committed to identifying how the host group intends to tackle three other critical areas: First, how will they go about recruiting for the gathering to insure breadth of participation? Second, how will they pursue follow-up of the event to insure maximum impact? Third, how will they insure significant participation of leaders, both clergy and laypeople?

In David's decision-making process, whether dealing with a local initiative or a national event, the Board has asked him to look closely at context, recruiting, follow-up and leadership involvement, possibly making recommendations to the conveners based on his nearly 30 years of experience working on all four fronts.

Next Step: the Questionnaire

The Board is very eager to take next steps with you as we explore your specific invitation to David.

The Ministry Questionnaire (which is available elsewhere on this website) is the best starting place. It highlights the issues David and his team always investigate as we weigh opportunities like yours. Thus, it helps you respond constructively to some of the major criteria David uses in determining which assignments he ultimately should accept.

This is not busy-work, I assure you. Every answer is important and useful - to both you and to your committee as well as to us. I think you'll enjoy filling it out, actually.

After reading my letter, please download and fill out the Questionnaire. As soon as you return it to our offices (by fax or mail), we will give it immediate prayerful consideration. Then David will contact you to discuss the opportunity further. You can expect to hear back within two or three weeks.

Whatever final decisions are made, please know how much the Board and I appreciate all you are doing for Christ and for His Kingdom. Truly, we are humbled that you would consider inviting David to join you in ministry. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely in Christ,

Dick Griggs
Chairman of the Board
